I decided that I wanted to write a protest song. I don't know why, I just did. And then when I decided that I wanted to write a protest song, I realized that I couldn't think of anything in particular I wanted to protest. So in the end I decided to write a song about a whole lot of things that doesn't really make a point but features somewhat of a call to arms, indicative of being a protest song. So there you go, a TOMB style protest song.
lyrics
This is an Open Letter To The Future Generations
The kids that think I'm cool, the grown ups that'll think that too
The painters and the writers. The lovers and the fighters
The artists and the poets and the bleeding hearts that do not show it
The cowboys and indians, the cops and robbers too
And all those other silly games we played when we were two
this is for doctors and for lawyers and that one girl in the foyer
and the anchors that are on the six o'clock news
This is for the whole world, and everyone that's in it.
All I ask for, is that you give me just a minute
I've got some things to tell you, I've got some tales to spell you
This is an open letter to the places that I've been
this is an ode to all the places that I've never seen
the lakes and the rivers and the trees beside the streams
this is for all the places that I see in my dreams
the ghettos and the suburbs and downtown and city hall
all the wonders of the world, I want to see them all
this is for love this is for peace this is for the middle east
this is for hate this is for war, this is for all of that and more
this is for every place and everyone and everything that's in it
All I ask for, is that you give me just a minute
I've got some things to tell you, I've got some tales to spell you
This is an Open Letter To The Future Generations
this is an ode to all the places that I've seen
this is for you this is for me and everyone that's in between
All I ask for, is that you wake up from this dream
I've got some things to tell you, I've got some tales to spell you
